This position reports directly to the Chairperson of the Cape Peninsula Fire Protection Association (CPFPA), the Executive Committee, and partners and members, contributing to the overall goals of the CPFPA. While the successful candidate will provide a professional, integrated management service to the CPFPA, the initial focus will be on serving current members in the East Ward and expanding the membership base to enhance the sustainability of the CPFPA in the region.

Additional key responsibilities include supporting other FPA Managers and Base Managers, as well as managing current and future Working on Fire (WoF) teams in the region. The position is based in Somerset West, and the successful candidate will be required to work from the CPFPA main office which is situated on the Lourenford Wine Estate.

Key Responsibilities:
• Expand CPFPA membership and engagement
• Maintain the CPFPA landowner database
• Capture member data in the CPFPA GIS system and prepare wildfire-related maps
• Provide extension services to landowners and communities on compliance with relevant legislation
• Develop Fire Management/Alien Invasion Vegetation Plans for business units in the CPFPA domain
• Assist landowners with prescribed biodiversity and stack burns as well as firefighting operations
• Oversee the management of a WoF base in accordance with WoF guidelines and the CPFPA-WoF agreement
• Initiate and lead fire awareness campaigns
• Arrange and attend meetings and workshops as requested by the Chairperson
• Perform general administrative functions, including taking meeting minutes and processing official documents, e.g. Open Burning Permit Applications in support of members
• Handle administrative duties such as organizing workshops, meetings, event coordination, travel arrangements, and updating budgets
• Obtain and compile quotations as required
• Lead the maintenance of the CPFPA website and manage relevant social media platforms

The salary for this position will be market related and commensurate with the candidates' qualifications and experience.

Requirements


Minimum Requirements:
• A National Diploma in Forestry or Nature Conservation is preferred, with at least 3 years of relevant practical experience
• Basic knowledge of Integrated Fire Management and Invasive Alien Plant Management
• Experience in conducting risk assessments and drafting annual plans of operation and management plans
• Background in extension services within the agricultural sector
• Familiarity with the National Veld and Forest Fire Act (Act 101 of 1998)
• Strong administrative and organizational skills
• Ability to maintain and update membership databases
• Competence in GIS-related software will be an advantage
• Must be a South African citizen
• Willingness to work weekends and public holidays as part of normal duties
• Valid South African Code 08 driver's license
• Proficiency in both English and Afrikaans
• Competence in Microsoft Office Suite
• Willingness to attend training and capacity-building programs
• Flexibility to travel and work away from home when required
