Description

CapeNature seeks a dynamic and committed individual to undertake daily nature conservation operations and eco-tourism operations at the Walkerbay Complex in Hermanus.

Key Responsibilities:
• Nature Conservation & Integrated Catchment Management: Assist with field tasks, monitoring, surveillance, ecological programmes implementation, alien invasive plant inspections, firefighting duties, fauna and flora management, ecological restoration
• Eco-Tourism & Environmental Education: Provide visitor information, gate guard duties, visitor behavior monitoring, customer care implementation, guest procedures, search and rescue operations, environmental education programmes
• Infrastructure & Equipment Maintenance: Terrain management, structure protection, stores management, maintenance scheduling for buildings, roads, trails, fences, vehicles, gardens, and signage
• Occupational Health & Safety: OHS assessments, compliance procedures, risk identification and mitigation, administrative duties, supervision of contract staff and students
• Law Enforcement & Compliance: Compliance patrols, unauthorized activity reporting, permit checks and inspections, law enforcement operations participation

Salary: R181,505 - R200,637 per annum (permanent position)

Requirements

Essential Requirements:
• Grade 12 certificate
• At least 2 years of related experience
• Valid Code B driver's license (minimum 2 years old)
• Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Internet, online platforms)
• Clean criminal record

• Knowledge of nature-based tourism and conservation
• Willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, public holidays
• Physical fitness for outdoor work under strenuous conditions
• Ability to perform foot/vehicular patrols, search and rescue, firefighting
• Equipment repair and maintenance abilities
• Good interpersonal and supervisory skills
• Conflict management and professional communication skills
• Problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work in remote environments with limited connectivity

• Tool and equipment operation certificates
• Power tool repair and maintenance experience
• General infrastructure repair experience
• Stores management experience
• First Aid Certificate
