Description

Nature Connect, in partnership with the City of Cape Town Biodiversity Management Branch and Paarden Eiland City Improvement District (PECID), seeks a Site Manager for the Zoarvlei Wetlands Conservation Area.

Key Responsibilities:
• Annual Planning: Compile and implement Annual Plan of Operation (APO) covering invasive species management, fire management, rehabilitation, infrastructure management, biological monitoring, environmental education and outreach, law enforcement, and pollution control
• Budget Management: Set targets and budgets for APO actions and submit to PECID
• Stakeholder Engagement: Attend PECID monthly meetings and ad-hoc meetings affecting Zoarvlei Section management
• Environmental Monitoring: Monitor Zoarvlei Wetlands to ensure water quality of surface and storm water run-off meets acceptable standards
• Asset Management: Control assets, equipment and stores
• Reporting: Compile monthly, quarterly and annual reports for PECID, Nature Connect, City of Cape Town and interested parties
• Staff Management: Manage conservation staff and occasionally temporary staff and contractors for conservation activities
• Mentoring: Mentor students, learners, interns and junior staff when required
• Fire Management: Respond to wild fires and ecological burns when required

Salary: R17,500 basic per month
Position Type: Full-time
Reporting: Biodiversity Management Branch (City of Cape Town)
Partnership: Working closely with Paarden Eiland City Improvement District (PECID)

Requirements

Essential Requirements:
• Relevant degree or diploma in Nature Conservation or similar field
• Minimum 1-year biodiversity and site management experience (2 years preferred)
• Understanding of City of Cape Town conservation planning and knowledge of provincial and national environmental legislation
• Exceptional communication skills with ability to communicate with different stakeholders
• Self-motivated and able to work independently, effectively managing time and initiating new projects
• Ability to work in team and supervise contract staff when necessary
• Applied knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Own accommodation and based in Cape Town
• Own transport preferred
• Valid Code EB (08) Driver's License with minimum 2 years driving experience
• Must be physically fit and prepared to work after hours when required
